We're kicking off summer as this week's show celebrates the soltice with a number great tunes for the season. 

It begins with a group named after our very own 60 mile stretch of sand, Grand Strand, featuring Myrtle Beach natives Kelley Anderson (Those Darlins) and Kain Naylor. Since shedding her "Darlin" moniker earlier this year, Anderson created a few demos filled with haunting melodies and surf guitars that eventually turned into this full-fledged band and it's first single "Cactus Blooms."

There's also a little Beach Boys-eqsue vocal harmony on a brand-new track from Columbia rock group LateNights with the acoustic, beachy "Sunrise Surprise."

But lest you think we're keeping it downtempo, there's also plenty to get the party started with tracks from Orangeburg rapper Sean Taylor, the latest release from MB's own Carlie Bravo and a great live band hip-hop track from Wilmington's BPL (Saw these guys at Hot Fish Club last weekend...great band.)

And last but not least this week are a couple of older efforts from top local acts with upcoming live shows. Listen to Jah Harvest and then go check them out at the Boathouse tonight opening for Bumpin' Uglies or listen to Sleeping Policeman who'll being playing his first show at Bey's in Columbia over the weekend.

Ever since they performed at our very first live show last February, we've been fans of local Pop Punk act Miracle Year. Over the past year and a half the band has seen some shakeup in its lineup, but seems to be trucking along again with a new album "All or Nothing" set to release on June 15. 

We kick off this week with "Take This City" from that upcoming EP. Beyond that, this episode is very Myrtle Beach heavy and features artist that run the gamut from legendary Horropunk/Ska group The Independents to up-and-coming Electro/Lounge collective ALLAREONE. We've even got some hardcore metal from For Cause And Comrades who you can catch live at the Myrtle Beach Battle of the Bands on June 14.

Finally, a trio of hip-hoppers round us out, with new music from two of the area's best up-and-coming acts in Tye Dye Ryhmes and Exklusive Musik as well as the episode's only out-of-towner N.C. rapper Scottie Flippen.

If you've been listening to music lately, you've surely noticed it. Whether its Dance and Dubstep spilling into Pop music, club DJs mixing and mashing up everything under the sun or more original post-everything compositions by the bedroom DJ set, there's nothing hotter than electronic music right now. 

And with a trio of local Electronic events happening in Myrtle Beach this weekend we thought now would be the perfect time to put together a mix of some of the area's best Electronic-influenced acts. 

We kick it off with a remix of The XX's "Shelter" by one of the area's hottest up-and-coming producers, Impuse Productions' Nick "Khaki" Sedota, an 18-year-old recent Myrtle Beach High graduate whose Dubstep-influenced beats have drawn the attention of local clubgoers and hip-hoppers alike.  

From there we've included a few laid-back grooves from acts out of Charleston and Charlotte before wrapping it all up nicely with some of Myrtle Beach's most established Electronic acts including the guitar-driven ambience of Electric Bird Noise and the bass-heavy Drum and Bass of Mixmaster Doc.

Typically Atypical took a quick two week vacation to kick off summer — we do occassionally have to get out of Myrtle Beach after all — but we're back with plenty of sunny grooves to get you through the week.

This week's episode kicks off with a tune from pop act the Lizzy Ross Band, who performed alongside Death of Paris during the Divas Marathon Kickoff Concert in North Myrtle Beach a few weeks back. The fresh voice and unique Rootsy pop style of this young N.C.-based singer-songwriter caught us by surprise a few weeks back and we've been stuck listening to her awesomely polished full-band debut "Read Me Out Loud" ever since.

We've also got a pair of Carolina-themed songs with odes to the Palmetto state from The Big Lie and Rich Kustera (via Brian Lea McKenzie's Music Factory). Round it out with a great new release from American Parts and a funky little number from The Mobros — who will play at Hot Fish Club on June 10 — and you've got something worth listening to.

Kicking off this week, we've got a tune from Southern Rock group Superswamp Heroes, a well-known local act who's returned to action recently after ex-guitarist Steve Senes left in 2010 to pursue a solo record deal. The band recently opened for Blackberry Smoke at The Boathouse in April and is working on material for a second album, which they hope to record with Myrtle Beach native Mike Rogers in Nashville in the near future.

We've also got a trio of hip-hop tracks that run the gamut from the old-school (Ques Bois) to up-and-coming (DeBre) to swagged out in the self-empowered "Love Myself" by Spacboy, Moe and Easy of N.C.'s Geek Sqwad. 

And if that's not enough, one of S.C.'s biggest buzz bands The Restoration is featured alongside one of the most successful Carolinas acts of recent years in The Avett Brothers with a song from 2010's "I And Love And You."

Rounding it out is one of the hottest names in Nashville right now, S.C. native Lee Brice with a track off of his 2007 debut "Picture of Me."
